CULTURE: Too Beautiful to Live (TBTL)

This is very simple. Go to iTunes and subscribe to the podcast. Especially if you live in Seattle. Seriously. Just do it.

CULTURE: This American Life #168 The Fix is In / The Informant

Over the last couple years I have become I really big fan of talk radio. Even when I was younger I was a huge fan of Loveline, but then Adam left and Stryker sucks. Then in high school I was a big fan of the Adam Corolla Show, but that got canceled. So recently, I've been into political, culture or societal based radio shows and podcasts. One of my favorite podcasts is This American Life with Ira Glass. I highly recommend it, but the reason I bring it up comes from the new film The Informant starring Matt Damon. What I recently learned from my number one favorite podcast, TBTL (based in Seattle), is that this film is based on a story done on This American Life. I haven't gotten to see the film yet, but I suggest you check out the podcast on iTunes and listen to this episode. It really is incredible and has inspired me to see the movie in the near future.

MUSIC: Jay-Z - The Blueprint 3

The Blueprint 3 has leaked, much to my happiness. Kanye's fingers got sticky allllll over this album giving it a starkly different sound than Jay has ever had. I really wouldn't even try to compare it to his other albums. That being said, I still really enjoy it. Oh, and he pairs with Mr. Hudson to remake "Forever Young". For serious.

MUSIC: Kid Cudi - Man on the Moon: End of Day

Cudi's album finally leaked. I just gave it a quick once over and pooed a little. The album really solidifies Cudi's style and sound and contains some awesome features by some interesting artists like Billy Cravens and MGMT. If you're down with Cudi, this album certainly won't disappoint.

DESIGN: Mosaic Self-Portrait

I got a big artistic kick. The only catch is that the only inspiration I have is self portraits. Call it pretentious haha. Anyway, this is my first one.

If you generalize and label enough, everyone can be broken down into a few simple pieces. However, when the gray area that holds those pieces together is removed, your conclusion is likely to fall apart.

MUSIC: Young Jeezy and Jay - Z - "My President is Black Remix" Live

Jay-Z is one of the best lyricists of our time. That's it. Period. Let the vid play out so you can hear Jay's verse. Hopefully they'll make an official video and I can post that later. P.S. Jeezy has some crazy stage presence.

My president is black in fact he’s half white
So even in a racists mind hes half right
So if you got a racists mind its alright
My president is black but his house is all white
Rosa Parks sat so Martin Luther could walk
Martin Luther walked so Barack Obama could run
Barack Obama ran so all the children could fly
So Ima spread my wings you can meet in the sky

OHHHH MY GOD!

How sick is this? When asleep, these clocks just look like pieces of wood, but when turned on LED lights shine through brightly to display the time. It doesn't stop there, the clocks also display the date and temperature. You can pick one up for about $40 here.

FILM: Milk

Two nights ago I went to the movie Milk.

First of all, before I talk about the movie, I have to say anyone looking for a fun movie experience in the Tacoma area should definitely stop by the Grand Cinema in Tacoma. It was a really great place and will definitely be seeing another film there.

Now to Milk.

Director Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting) just painted his Mona Lisa. For a serious film, Milk has it all; great acting, great script, amazing cinematography. If someone were to ask me what Van Sant could have done better, I would have trouble finding an answer.

Sean Penn (I am Sam) does an extraordinary portrayal of gay activist Harvey Milk. Every once of frustration, happiness, sadness, hopeless, anger, etc., is felt through his performance. Penn is supported by other actors who do an outstanding job as well including James Franco (Pineapple Express), Emile Hirsch (Speed Racer), and Josh Brolin (Planet Terror) to name a few.

Humor, tragedy, and success make this film a must see.

WRITTEN WORD: Obama Newsweek Cover

While checking out at the grocery store the other day, I happen to see the cover of the December 29, 2008 - January 5 ,2009 cover of NewsWeek. Usually I find myself impressed with the written content of NewsWeek instead of their design, but this cover blew me away. The way it used graphic to tie in the topic of this issues focus is brilliant. This proves that using symmetry is OK and that color and simplicity is not the only way to obtain a successful cover. Bravo, Newsweek!

Dear Washington Drivers

My first post is unfortunately a rant. I have a small favor to ask of Washington drivers. The next time a couple inches of snow fall, please do not treat it like the end of days. This is frozen precipitation falling, not fireballs from the depths of hell. When we had our last bout of snow, it seemed like 50% of my community holed themselves in their homes as if the minute they pulled their car out of the garage it would be barraged by stray Volkswagens. It's OKAY. You can drive! Area's in this country get feet of snow every year. Do you think they stop everything and wait for it to go away? This morning about an inch fell, which meant a centimeter on the roads, and one my way to work people were driving 4 MPH. It makes no sense. They're roads! Drive on them!

What you should expect out of this.

Not a whole lot.

I'm going to use this to post different forms of art that spark my interest. This includes music, fashion, photography, architecture, etc.

In addition, like everyone else, I'll complain about stuff on here as well.

Enjoy.
